Call for Presentation Subjects and Titles

Dear participants,

The larger part of the participants is selected and now it’s time to start completing the content and the program of the course together with you.

As you can see on the (provisional) program, we have three days on which ‘participant workshops’ are scheduled. Each of those days we will organize three or four parallel workshops. In each workshop three or four participants will give a presentation (15 minutes max.) followed by a discussion (10 minutes max.).

We try to form homogeneous workshops in terms of related subjects, but divers in terms of the countries the participants are coming from.

What we want from you, as soon as possible, is a title of your presentation and a short, no more than 200 words, outline/introduction/summary of the theme.

  • Please indicate specifically what the topical and concrete subject is your presentation will be about.
  • Furthermore it should visible with what kind of European challenge and/or aspect of inclusion or exclusion, this subject is related (political, socio-economical, cultural).
  • Make visible in one way or another in what way this is an issue of public interest.
  • It should show clearly that it is not (only) a theoretical or conceptual subject you are addressing, but that it also has an empirical component.

Looking at past experience, a few suggestions we think might help to determine your subject.

  • The subject does not have to deal with the European level specifically, but it can be a national or even local issue which has a European dimension (for instance: in what way does Europe cause or constrain a problem, in what way Europe is needed to deal with a problem, what differences are there within Europe around these kinds of problems and are those differences acceptable, et cetera)
  • Look at the subjects you do or did investigate earlier and assess whether those subjects (also) have a dimension that is related to the central themes of the course. Assess also how these subjects might relate to some others themes and presentations as mentioned in the provisional program.
  • Try to associate the keywords of this course to the subjects you have been working on the last one or two years.
  • Look for inspiration also at your own experiences and/or interests outside the academic world.
  • Make sure that your title and the description of the subject can be understood by someone from a complete different background in terms of country and in terms of discipline.

Send your outline before March 15th to Boudewijn Grievink (student assistant: B.J.G.Grievink[@]students.uu.nl)so that we will have time to comment and to provide you with some suggestions.
