Procedure Dubrovnik presentation and paper

As you know all participants will give a short 15 minutes presentation in one of the workshops that will be organized as a part of our course in Dubrovnik. The presentation is about a subject of your own choice related to the central theme. The paper you have to write is a more extended version of your presentation, including the more theoretical background and elaborating on the data and arguments you present (see below for the specific guidelines). The paper itself can be finalized in the weeks after the course in Dubrovnik.

In preparing the workshops and the final paper we use the following procedure.

  • In the months and weeks before the course we comment briefly on the titles and outlines that have been sent to us (looking at focus, scope, clear formulation of (research)questions, empirical ‘substance’ and so on);
  • In the weeks before the course the participants prepare the draft version of their paper which forms the basis for their presentation which they also prepare;
  • The week before the course the course directors make a provisional scheme of workshops. Each workshop will have three or four presentations on related subjects, but as much diversity in nationality as possible;

            In Dubrovnik, during the course, we will organize preparatory sessions per      workshop in which the participants will ‘test’ whether their             arguments/subjects are clearly enough formulated (there is some time for             adjusting/changing/fine tuning  your presentation, changing titles and so on        and so forth); (NB: powerpoint equipment / beamers will not be available.

  • In the (three) weeks after the course you have the opportunity to adjust you paper as well, taking the discussions on it into account.
  • The due date for the final version of the paper is May 12 2008. All papers will be published on this website.
