The intention was to focus on future developments regarding in- and exclusion, in relation to the expected consequences of the recent and forthcoming enlargement of the EU. Furthermore we wanted to highlight the possible role of Civil Society and Governance in dealing with problems coming form processes of inclusion and exclusion. Looking at the presentations from both resource persons and participants this focus was omnipresent throughout the whole course.
In size the course was more or less the same as in other years, approximately 60 persons in total. Fortunately we were able to welcome more participants from middle and eastern European countries. The 2004 edition was for the first time that the coursedirectors were not only supported by the allways friendly staff of the IUC, but we also had the pleasure of having Sharon Nijland and Viktor Timmermans with us as dedicated and professional assistants.
